Motorcyclist Charged With Running Over Men Outside RivCo Warehouse

RIVERSIDE, CA — A motorcyclist accused of plowing into two men during a confrontation possibly stemming from a demonstration outside a warehouse just south of Riverside was charged Friday with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and other offenses.

Jesus Antonio Salcido Perez, 40, of Perris, was arrested Wednesday following an investigation by the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Along with the assault counts, Perez was charged with sentence- enhancing great bodily injury allegations.

He's being held in lieu of $90,000 bail at the Byrd Detention Center and was slated to make his initial court appearance Friday afternoon at the Riverside Hall of Justice.

According to the Sheriff's Department, the confrontation occurred at 10:20 a.m. Wednesday on Krameria Avenue, near Bundy Avenue.

Sgt. Dave Tinker alleged that Perez was on his bike, heading in an unconfirmed direction, when he "intentionally accelerated into a crowd of individuals, striking two of them."

Although sheriff's officials didn't confirm the nature of the confrontation, at the time of the incident, Teamsters organizers were staging a protest on Krameria, calling on employees at the Amazon distribution center known as "DJT6" to walk off the job and force a work stoppage.

Whether the two victims allegedly targeted by Salcido were among the demonstrators wasn't specified. They were identified in court documents only as "M.H." and "R.B."

Tinker said the two men were taken to a regional trauma center for treatment, but their injuries were not life-threatening.

Perez wasn't hurt. He was taken into custody without incident.

Amazon on Wednesday said the Teamsters action did not lead to a disruption in warehouse operations, and it was unclear whether any employees went outside to join the demonstration, or it was only union activists. The distribution facility is not under any collective bargaining agreements, according to Amazon.

Perez has no documented prior felony convictions in Riverside County.
