Banning, Beaumont elected officials talk about privacy rights and public use of social media

With excerpts from the Record Gazette Julie/BYJULIE FARREN, Record Gazette 7.27.17

Banning Council member Debbie Franklin, Beaumont Mayor Lloyd White and Beaumont school board member Brian Sylva cry a blue moon over social media post. The three officials must have forgotten back in the day there was letters to the editors and printed in paper. Those got brutally honest.

"Banning council member Debbie Franklin, who has served on the council since 2006, knows that her elected position is going to draw responses from the public depending on how they feel about her personally and her decisions on issues that affect them.".........

"She said that she even has been the subject of comments from former Banning council member Jerry Westholder, implying that she was providing benefits to friends so that they didn't have to pay their utility bills."

"Beaumont Mayor Lloyd White has recently been the target of postings on an online website by former Beaumont mayor Roger Berg, who claim: that the current mayor has been receiving eight free years of landscape maintenance from the
city on his Beaumont
property.

"White responded that he has not received free landscape maintenance from the city of Beaumont and provided an online copy of the deed, in his and his wife's names." The deed proved nothing and White avoided the questions asked by citizens.

"What really upset White that accompanying the article were photos of his property taken by resident Gabe Ewing, who has been a vocal critic of the Beaumont city council." Another White Lie, feel free to visit Mind Your Own Beaumont website and see the article for yourself

"White wrote a response to the article and asked that the photos be taken down from the website because it "creeped out" his wife and 15-year old daughter. Ewing wrote back that he provides a service to homeowners and was in the area of White's home in the Stetson community so he took the photos. He also said that he respects White's family and always will, and that he never intended to "creep"anyone out with the photos." White released where he lived and in print in the Record Gazette. THE RESPONSE WAS TO AN EMAIL ASKING QUESTIONS. I removed no photos from my article.

"White said that he believes a public official's family, including his wife, daughter and 11-year- old son, is off-limits. If White volunteers information about his family, then that's okay. But he doesn't want anyone else putting them in the spotlight when they did not choose the public life." White is the only one talking about his wife and kids. White volunteered his information when White ran for office.

The article continues and compares the three officials to Donald Trump......

"Brian Sylva, who was elected to the Beaumont school board in November 2016....."

"Sylva said he believe there will always be people observing politicians' behaviors and finding fault with their actions.".......

"There's a fine line between disclosure and exposure for a candidate," Sylva said. Then don't run for office and cry about it later.

"Franklin is very protective of her privacy and said that if someone were to take a picture of her home, she would report it to the police." White should call the police, I will glady show them the pictures and where they were taken.

"White said that he has two facebook pages, one for city council and one for his family. But he is cautious about what he posts and said that his family did not sign up for public service." Except when White uses his family to get out of answering questions and uses his mothers address on a DA whiteness form.
