Banning Church Hosts Blessing Of Animals, Pet Remembrances Sunday
Your dogs, cats, fish, birds, reptiles, terrapins and mammals are invited to this Pass Area church's outdoor worship service Sunday.
BANNING, CA — All are invited to Our Savior's Lutheran Church for the annual Blessing of the Animals event. Leashed, crated, or "fish bowled" pets and their owners were invited to attend the outdoor worship service scheduled at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, at 1320 W. Williams Street in Banning.
Each year, the Lutheran church in the Pass Area shows heart for all creatures, great and small.
The church's annual Blessing of the Animals honors St. Francis of Assisi and celebrates the human-animal bond, according to the church. The blessing service originates from a Roman Catholic tradition as part of the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals.

All animals in attendance will receive a special blessing, according to church officials. This year, prayers of remembrance will also be offered for pets who have died over the past year.
"Bring a photo or other memento of the pet for this prayer," they suggested.
