Banning Officials Break Ground On $33.5 Million Infrastructure Project

BANNING, CA — City officials in Banning broke ground on a new $33.5 million construction project this week expected to improve traffic and support the city's growth.

Construction of the Sun Lakes Boulevard Extension Project got underway on Tuesday, including city leaders, stakeholders and partners who made the project possible.

Attendees gathered at the corner of Sun Lakes Boulevard and South Highland Home Road to kick off the groundbreaking ceremony.

The city has said the project would "close a gap in the city's circulation system by connecting the current end point of Sun Lakes Boulevard at Highland Home Road and extend the roadway 1 mile easterly to connect at the intersection of Sunset Avenue and Westward Avenue."

Funding for the infrastructure improvement project includes $13.5 million the Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC) and $20 million from the Western Riverside Council of Governments (WRCOG), officials said.

Construction of the Sun Lakes Boulevard Extension Project is expected to last 18 months.
