Beaumont Unified to Feed Youth for Free this Summer

Beaumont Unified School District is providing free meals to all children this summer.

The Free Summer Food Program, a federally funded USDA operation, provides breakfast and lunch to children age 1-18.

The program is offered to districts who have more than 50 percent of their students on free or reduced lunch plans, according to Kathy Zipperstein, director of child nutrition services for Beaumont Unified School District.

This is the second year the program has been extended after the end of summer school.

"This year we've had an even bigger response from the community," said Zipperstein. "Year after year it has grown. We had 75 kids yesterday at the community center just from the public."

A child does not have to be a Beaumont resident to take advantage of the program.
