Beaumont Charitable Foundation Golf Tournament Aug. 26 at Tukwet Canyon

The tournament will benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the Lt. John Acosta Memorial Scholarship program. Entry is $100 and includes 'goodie bag' and lunch. Check-in is 7 a.m., shotgun start is 8 a.m.

The City of Beaumont and the Beaumont Police Officers Association plan to host the Inaugural Beaumont Charitable Foundation Golf Tournament on Friday, Aug. 26, at Tukwet Canyon, organizers said.

The tournament will benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the Lt. John Acosta Memorial Scholarship program.

Entry fee for the tournament is $100, which includes a 'goodie bag' and lunch. Check-in is at 7 a.m. and the shotgun start commences at 8 a.m.

The tournament includes contests for putting, longest drive, and closest to the pin, organizers said.

Registration is limited to the first 144 players. Registration forms are available at the Beaumont Civic Center, 550 E. 6th Street, at the Albert A. Chatigny Sr. Community Recreation Center, 1310 Oak Valley Parkway, and on the city’s website at www.ci.beaumont.ca.us.

Tee sponsorships are available for $100, organizers said.

The Lt. John Acosta Memorial Scholarship program recognizes Beaumont High seniors who wish to pursue careers in law enforcement, city officials said.

Acosta was a 25-year veteran of the Beaumont Police Department who died in 2008 after a long battle with cancer.

The scholarship program honors Acosta "as an outstanding leader and recognizes his unwavering commitment to the youth of our community," city officials said.

The Aug. 26 tournament is also part of the City of Beaumont’s efforts to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

"The City raises money throughout the year and presents a check to MDA at the annual MDA Telethon during Labor Day weekend," city officials said.
