Beaumont Explosion: 2 Severely Burned In Honey Oil Lab, Cops Say

Beaumont police say two people were hospitalized with severe burns following the incident.

BEAUMONT, CA — Two people were severely burned on Monday afternoon in Beaumont, when an illegal "marijuana cultivation site and a butane honey oil extraction lab" exploded, police report.

The operation was discovered around 5 p.m. in the area of 3rd Street and Grace Avenue, according to the Beaumont Police Department. It was a passerby who heard "some type of explosion" and saw a man "who appeared injured" running from a house.

Police headed out to the location "but were unable to locate an obvious explosion site, nor any victims or witnesses," police said. However, they were soon contacted by Banning police, who told them that two people had checked themselves into the emergency room at San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital with severe burns.

"Officers from the Beaumont Police Department responded to the hospital and confirmed the victims were associated with the explosion that occurred at a home in the 300 block of Grace Avenue," police said.

Beaumont police then searched the property to look for any additional possible victims.

"During the safety sweep officers located the remnants of a marijuana cultivation site and a butane honey oil extraction lab in an outbuilding on the property," police said. "Members of the Beaumont Multiple Enforcement Team and Detective Bureau were called out to handle the investigation."

As of Monday evening, no arrests had been made in the case as the police investigation continues. Anyone who may have information related to the case was asked to call Sgt. Wann of the Multiple Enforcement Team at 951-769-8500.
