Beaumont Murder: Victim, Suspect Identified In Deadly Shooting

Police said the local man was found lying in the street earlier this week, suffering from "at least one gunshot wound."

BEAUMONT, CA — A man who was found earlier this week lying in the street after having been shot later died of his injuries at the hospital, police announced Thursday. As for the man accused of gunning him down, police said they nabbed him in San Diego County on Wednesday.

According to Beaumont police, 22-year-old Trejean Malik Williams Cullors of Beaumont was found around 12:56 a.m. Monday in the area of 5th Street and Beaumont Avenue. Cullors was rushed to the hospital, where he was initially listed in "grave" condition, but "the Beaumont Police Department were informed by a local hospital that the victim in the attempted murder...had succumbed to his injuries."

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, police arrested the man accused of shooting Cullors. Police identified him as 20-year-old Alyais Lavante Jahneal Harper of Beaumont.

"Harper was taken into custody by members of the Riverside County Gang Impact Team (GIT) in Oceanside, CA, and booked into Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside, for attempted murder and felony discharge of a firearm," Beaumont police announced Thursday. "However, Harper’s charge has been amended to murder."

In an initial investigation by officers, witnesses said they heard gun shots and observed a vehicle leaving the area at a high rate of speed, police said.

Police are investigating the murder and said no additional details will be released at this time. Anyone who may have information related to the case was asked to call Detective Sergeant Galletta at 951-769-8500.
