Beaumont Teen Killed In Crash On Brookside Avenue

BEAUMONT, CA — An 18-year-old Beaumont man was killed Wednesday evening in a traffic collision at Brookside Avenue and Union Street near Beaumont.

Cody Kolkow died at the crash scene shortly after 6 p.m., according to the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner's Bureau.

Kolkow was driving west on Brookside Avenue in a yellow Ford Mustang as a 39-year-old Beaumont man driving a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was heading south on Union Street. The truck driver stopped at Brookside, then began to drive through the intersection as the Ford approached, according to the CHP.

Kolkow tried to avoid the truck by veering left, but the front of the Chevy struck the right front of the Mustang, the CHP said.

The crash impact sent Kolkow's car into a wooden utility pole, killing the teen, according to the CHP.

"The speed of the Ford as it approached the intersection is still under investigation," the CHP reported.

No passengers were in the Mustang.

The truck driver was not injured, but his wife, who was traveling with him, was transported to a local hospital with complaints of pain, the CHP said.

No other injuries were reported.

Drugs/alcohol do not appear to be crash factors, according to the CHP.

No arrests were reported by the CHP.

There are no stop signs on Brookside Avenue at Union Street. However, Union Street traffic does have stop signs at Brookside.

Traffic at the intersection was closed Wednesday night for several hours due to the crash investigation by the CHP.

Damage to the utility pole caused local power outages. Southern California Edison responded to the scene to repair the pole.

Kolkow was a Class of 2020 Beaumont High School graduate.
