Beaumont Unified Celebrates Spelling Champions

In the school district's recent spelling bee, an eighth grader from Mt. View Middle School took home the top prize.

Of the nearly two dozen students who recently took place in the 2013 Beaumont Unified School District spelling bee, it was an eighth grade girl and a fifth grade boy who took home top honors, district officials reported Monday.

Two representatives from each of the district's schools with students in grades 4-8 took part in the competition, held at Anna Hause Elementary School.

According to the school district, Alyssa Cadiz, who attends Mt. View Middle School, won this year's bee on Jan. 22.  Cadiz is in the eighth grade.

Fifth-grader Tyler Mason, of Tournament Hills Elementary, took home second place.  Another fifth-grader, Graden Lemon, rounded up the top three.  Lemon attends Anna Hause Elementary.

According to BUSD, the District coordinators of the competition were Mr. Michael Loutzenhiser and Mrs. Ikia Fletcher. The Spellmaster was Superintendent Dr. Maureen Latham; Director of Student Services, Mr. Shawn Mitchell was head judge; President of BUSD Board of Trustees, Mrs. Susie Lara was rounds keeper; and Asst.Superintendent Dr. Christina Goennier was judge.
