UPDATE: Man Dies in Beaumont Officer Involved Shooting
Beaumont police say the man was armed with a hatchet.
UPDATE 8:30 P.M. -- Beaumont police say a man who was shot by police Saturday afternoon has died of his injuries.
The unidentified man had apparently walked up to some vehicles in the Burger King parking lot while armed with a hatchet and stick, according to police. They responded shortly thereafter, when an officer-involved shooting happened.
"The suspect was transported to a local area hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead," police said in a statement. "The decedent's name will not be released at this time, pending notification of next of kin. No Beaumont Police Officers or by-standers were injured during the incident."

Police say an officer has been placed on leave, per department policy.
UPDATE: 2:20 P.M.— Beaumont police confirm to Patch that an officer-involved shooting occurred in town this afternoon near the local Burger King fast food restaurant.

According to officials, police received a call regarding a "suspicious person" in the area around 12:30 p.m.
"Officers arrived at the location and made contact with the subject who refused to comply with lawful commands and an officer involved shooting occurred," police said in a news release.
The extent of the person's injuries aren't yet known. Police officers were unharmed.
A witness tells Patch that she saw part of the scene unfold, and believes she spotted two officers armed with tasers and one with a gun.
"I saw three officers approaching a man and he was sideways to the building and then all of a sudden I saw him go down," Ashley Baragry of Beaumont said.
Baragry said she did not see any weapons on the man, but says she could not fully see him.
The Riverside County Sheriff's Department has sent their forensics team to the scene and are handling the investigation, police said.
BEAUMONT, CA — An apparent crime scene in Beaumont has police asking residents to keep clear of the area of 6th street and Highland Springs Avenue this afternoon.
Beaumont police first reported the incident around 12:30 p.m., with the following message:
There is police activity in the area of the Food For Less/Stater Bros. parking lot on the Southwest corner of 6th street and Highland Springs Avenue.
Please avoid this area and we will update with more information as it becomes available.
Photos posted to social media of the scene show police and paramedics outside the local Burger King fast food restaurant, with caution tape blocking the eatery off.
