Man Imprisons Cabazon Mother, Tries To Kill Her, Police Allege

The man has been booked into jail in lieu of $1 million bail.

CABAZON, CA — A Cabazon man was jailed Wednesday on suspicion of second degree robbery, false imprisonment and attempted murder in a case involving his own mother, sheriff's officials said. With a bail amount of $1 million, the man is due in court on Thursday.

Sheriff's officials did not reveal much about the case, but said Richard Diaz was arrested Tuesday after his mom went to the Cabazon sheriff's station "to make a report that she had just been assaulted by her 31-year-old son" at 9:42 a.m.

"The investigation revealed she had been held against her will and assaulted," said sheriff's Sgt. John Carlberg.

It's not clear how long the woman was allegedly held against her will or what officials believe was the motive in the case.
