Census: Riverside County's Five-Year Growth Rate Second Highest in State

According to the mid-decade census report, Riverside County's population grew from 2,189,760 to 2,361,026 residents -- a gain of 171,266.

RIVERSIDE, CA - Riverside County's population growth rate in the first half of the current decade was the second-highest in the state, according to a U.S. Census Bureau report released today.

Figures showed that the countywide population expanded 7.8 percent between April 2010 and July 2015. That rate was only exceeded by Alameda County, where the population spiked 8.5 percent in the same period.

According to the mid-decade census report, Riverside County's population grew from 2,189,760 to 2,361,026 residents -- a gain of 171,266.

Trailing Riverside was Placer County, with a 7.7 percent growth rate, followed by Santa Clara County, at 7.6 percent, and San Francisco County at 7.4 percent.

Los Angeles County remained the most populous county in the state and nation, with an estimated 10.2 million people.

According to census officials, no California location made the list of "100 fastest growing counties" for the 2010-2015 period.

The highest recorded growth levels were concentrated in parts of North Dakota, Florida, Louisiana, Utah, Texas and Georgia.

In the Ontario-Riverside-San Bernardino metropolitan area, the population swelled by 264,308 people over the five-year period ending July 1, 2015, according to government statistics.

The U.S. population was estimated to be 321,418,820 by last July, compared to 308,745,538 five years earlier. Over that same period, California's population swelled from 37,254,503 to 39,144,818.
