Vietnam Combat Artist David Fairrington of Beaumont in Loma Linda on Sunday

Fairrington will be the featured speaker at a Sunday April 1 event at Jerry L. Pettis Veterans Administration Medical Center, sponsored by the Loma Linda Cultural Arts Association.

A Beaumont resident who served as a US Army combat artist in 1960s Vietnam plans to share some of his experience and discuss his work during an event Sunday in Loma Linda.

David Fairrington, 71, will also discuss the history of combat art during the event at the Jerry L. Pettis Veterans Administration Medical Center auditorium.

Some of Fairrington's ink and acrylic works for the military are on display at the US Army Center of Military History in Washington, D.C., and they are featured in an online gallery, "Art of the American Soldier," by the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, Pa.

Fairrington grew up in Texas and graduated from Texas Tech University. After serving in the Army, he opened his own studio, where he created more than 150 movie posters for Hollywood producers. He continues to paint, and he teaches classes in Loma Linda, Yucaipa, Cherry Valley and Palm Springs.

The event at 2 p.m. Sunday April 1 is sponsored by the Loma Linda Cultural Arts Association. Jerry L. Pettis Veterans Administration Medical Center is at 11201 Benton St. in Loma Linda.
