Cougars Hope for Another Sharp Effort

Beaumont plays at South Pasadena on Tuesday.

Things couldn’t have gone much better for Beaumont during its playoff opener last week.

The Cougars, after completing the regular season by losing two of its last three, put together a dominating effort in a 4-0 win over Valle Vista League wild card entry Hacienda Heights Wilson.

The Cougars (15-6-5) hope to be just as dominant on Tuesday when they play a second round game against Rio Hondo League runner-up South Pasadena (13-6-5).

Beaumont coach Kelsey Tedrow, even with an impressive victory, wanted to avoid any signs of overconfidence.

“I think we will just take it one game at a time and see what happens,” Tedrow said. “We will take next week and just see what happens.”

Beaumont was ranked No. 7 in the final regular season soccer poll. And the Tigers were ranked No. 8.

Beaumont’s senior midfielder Rebecca Vanderbyl was feeling the moment after the game.

“I definitely think so,” Vanderbyl said if the win can help the team’s momentum. “I want to go all the way. I don’t see why we can’t. If we play strong like we just did, I don’t know why we can’t go all the way.”

While Beaumont had a problem-free playoff win, the same can’t be said for South Pasadena. The Tigers advanced but lost two goal keepers to injury. Starter Angelique Ulmer (shoulder) and Hailey Magana (head) were both transported to the hospital during the game.
