Couple, Both 80, Killed By Suspected DUI Driver In Moreno Valley

Alberto and Lydia Agoncillo were pronounced dead in the crash on Allesandro Boulevard.

MORENO VALLEY, CA — An elderly Moreno Valley couple died together in a crash Thursday afternoon that was caused by a suspected drunken driver, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department announced.

Alberto and Lydia Agoncillo, both 80, were killed when, shortly after 4 p.m., Wendy Aguilar, 42, of Los Angeles struck the passenger side of their blue 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander with her black 2002 Acura MDX, according to the sheriff's department.

Aguilar was speeding westbound on Alessandro Boulevard when she struck the Outlander as the Agoncillo's were turning left into a Moreno Valley business complex from the eastbound side of the roadway, west of Heacock Street, the agency said.

The Agoncillo's were pronounced dead at the scene despite life-saving efforts by first responders.

Aguilar received only minor injuries during the crash, but her adult passenger was sent to a hospital with moderate injuries, according to the sheriff's department.

The investigation into the fatal wreck determined that Aguilar was drunk at the time. She was arrested and later booked into Riverside's Robert Presley Detention Center on suspicion of second-degree murder, and felony driving under the influence of alcohol with an additional enhancement charged for causing great bodily injury to her passenger, according to the sheriff's department.

Jail records were unavailable.

During the crash investigation, Allesandro Boulevard was closed between Heacock Street and Alessandro Plaza.
