Riverside County History Day Competition

Students from grades 6-12 throughout Riverside County will participate in the 29th Annual Riverside County History Day Competition Saturday, March 17, 2012, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Ramona High School, 7675 Magnolia Avenue, Riverside.

The award ceremony is scheduled for 4 p.m. in the Ramona High School Auditorium.

The theme this year is “Revolution, Reaction, Reform in History.” Entries are judged with three criteria: historical quality, quality of presentation, and adherence to the theme.  The work must be completely done by students.

History Day competitions started in September at the school district level. This year, 196 students are competing at the county level from nine school districts and two charter schools. There were 112 entries in the various categories. Categories include documentary, performance, exhibit, two dimensional display (grades 4-5 only), paper, and web site. Categories open to public viewing include performance and documentary, and the exhibit hall will be open to the public from 2:30-3:30 p.m.

The winning teams will advance to the National History Day-California State Competition April 27-29, 2012, to be held this year Riverside. The national competition is scheduled for June 10-14, 2012, at the University of Maryland, College Park.
