'Fallen Heroes' Memorial Display Continues in Palm Springs

The display features military photos of service members who have died since 9/11.

PALM SPRINGS, CA - A traveling memorial to 723 California service men and women killed in combat since the terror strikes of Sept. 11, 2001, is making a two-week stop in Palm Springs. It arrived Sunday.

Palm Springs Mayor Robert Moon will officiate at an opening ceremony Saturday for “Remembering Our California Fallen Heroes,” a display featuring military photos of each fallen service member.

“As a veteran and Navy commander who served multiple tours of duty in uniform in the Persian Gulf, for me personally, this is a very emotional memorial,” Moon said.

“Indeed, it is a stark reminder of the ultimate sacrifice made by 723 fallen heroes from the State of California killed in Iraq and Afghanistan while wearing our country’s uniform in a war zone,” he said. “It is important and most appropriate we thank them.”

The memorial will be on display from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. through March 5, at the La Plaza Shopping Center, 115 S. Indian Canyon, Suite 122.
