Female Inmate Dies In Riverside County Jail, Foul Play Not Suspected

RIVERSIDE, CA — A female inmate at Riverside's Robert Presley Detention Center found unresponsive in her cell Thursday night has died, but the Riverside County Sheriff's Department reported that foul play is not suspected.

The inmate, whose identity has not yet been released, was found at 8:35 p.m., according to the department.

County jail staff performed life-saving measures, and Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department crews continued the effort when they arrived at the detention center, but the woman was ultimately pronounced dead at 9: 12 p.m., the sheriff's department reported.

Because her identity was not released, it's unclear what the woman was in custody for.

The sheriff's department did not disclose whether the inmate was alone in her cell when she was found unresponsive.
