Fire Breaks Out Adjacent to Moreno Valley Mall, Prompting 60 Freeway Closure: Fire Department

Officials say a vehicle fire sparked the vegetation blaze.

Moreno Valley, CA – A van erupted in flames Wednesday adjacent to the Moreno Valley Mall, leaving the driver injured and touching off a quarter-acre fire that prompted temporary closure of one side of the Moreno Valley (60) Freeway.

The blaze was reported about 11:30 a.m. on the north side of the mall, under the freeway, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

Six engine crews, including several from the nearby March Air Reserve Base, were sent to the location and contained the fire less than a half-hour later, a fire department spokeswoman said.
