Hill Fire Containment Grows As New Blaze Starts In Jurupa Valley

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — Containment has reached 80 percent Thursday morning for the Hill Fire, which broke out around 10 a.m. Wednesday in Jurupa Valley and forced evacuations along a several mile stretch south of Highway 60.

The fast-moving blaze burned 628 acres, caused one civilian to be hospitalized with minor injuries and damaged one mobile home and one residential structure, according to Cal Fire Riverside County.

Evacuation orders were lifted by 6:45 p.m. Wednesday. Crews will remain assigned to the Hill Fire all day Thursday, Cal Fire said, adding that it no longer threatens any structures.

Meanwhile, a new blaze broke out early Thursday in Jurupa Valley: the 46 fire, which was reported around 12:39 a.m., spread to neighboring Riverside, and had burned 300 acres with 5 percent containment Thursday morning.

The fires have come as strong Santa Ana winds whip through the region, with multiple wildfires burning statewide.
