MORENO VALLEY, CA — A fire that broke out in Riverside County Wednesday afternoon destroyed a home, sent a large smoke plume over an area north of the 60 freeway and was threatening nearby homes before crews contained it.

The fire was reported at 1:03 in the area of Webb Street between Ironwood and Hemlock avenues in Moreno Valley, Riverside County Fire/Cal Fire Karina Espinoza told Patch.

The fire, which began in a structure, prompted crews to call for a second alarm due to a lack of water, Espinoza said. However, the second alarm was later canceled. Assistance from Southern California Edison has been requested.
