Flood Watch Issued For Parts Of Riverside County

The National Weather Service update comes after flooding from thunderstorms was reported across the region Sunday.

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — Motorists are advised that a flood watch has been issued by the National Weather Service starting at 11 a.m. Monday in parts of Riverside County.

The flood watch is in effect through 8 p.m. Monday for Riverside County mountains, the San Gorgonio Pass near Banning,and Apple and Lucerne Valleys.

Excessive runoff could result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Mud and debris flows are possible around recent burn areas, the NWS reported.

Flooding was reported across Riverside County on Sunday as thunderstorms rolled through the region.

The chance of showers and thunderstorms continues Monday with rainfall heaviest in the flood watch zones. Some storms and bursts can produce downpours with rainfall rates of a half inch to 1 inch per hour.

The NWS recommends monitoring later forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding and near recent burn areas should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.

Some areas near the Fairview fire experienced mudflow from burn areas Sunday, according to Cal Fire's Day Operations Branch Manager Justin McGough. The 28,307-acre blaze burning near Hemet was 53% contained as of Monday.
