Flute-Making Workshop Overlaps 7th Annual Art Hop in Downtown Banning
Navajo flute-maker Marvin Yazzie and wife Jonette are planning a three-day workshop May 4-6 at Dorothy Ramon Learning Center, 17 W. Hays St. The cost is $300 per person.
A Navajo flute-maker and his wife are planning a three-day workshop in downtown Banning that will coincide with the on May 5.
For $300 per person, Marvin and Jonette Yazzie will show students how to make six-holed Plains-style Native American flutes from wood, May 4 to May 6 at Dorothy Ramon Learning Center, a spokeswoman said. Ernest Siva of the Learning Center will teach basic flute-playing.

A free flute-making class was offered during last year's , in addition to the Yazzies' workshop, a spokeswoman for the Learning Center said. It's not clear as of mid-April whether the free workshop will be offered again this year, she said.
The nonprofit Dorothy Ramon Learning Center, at 17 W. Hays St., preserves and shares Native American cultures, languages, history, and music and other traditional arts. More info is at www.dorothyramon.blogspot.com.
