Free Fishing Clinic Helps Families Reel In Fun and First-Time Memories

More than 50 local residents spent a summer morning casting lines, catching fish, and making memories during a free family fishing clinic hosted by Mom's Adventure Club at the lakes at Golden Era Golf Course.

The event brought together approximately 20 families from throughout the San Jacinto Valley and Beaumont and Banning many of whom had never fished before. By the end of the morning, participants had caught more than 30 fish in the catch-and-release event, with several children celebrating the thrill of catching their very first fish. Among the day's highlights was a set of twins, who each landed their first fish.

The fishing clinic was the fifth held by Mom's Adventure Club this year, following a Memorial Day weekend family campout. Organizers say the growing popularity of the program reflects a strong community interest in affordable outdoor activities that bring families together.

Participants praised the event for its welcoming atmosphere.

"We had a blast as always. Can't wait for the next one," one parent said.

Another participant added, "Thank you for another wonderful fishing event," while another family shared, "We are always ready for more fishing. We will see you at the next one."

Unlike many organized recreational activities, the fishing clinic is entirely free. No fishing license is required, all fishing tackle is provided, and there are no membership fees or participation requirements. Experienced anglers volunteer their time to help beginners learn the basics, and organizers are always looking for additional volunteers with fishing experience.

The clinics are held at the lakes at Golden Era Golf Course, which donates the use of the property to support nonprofit community programs. Organizers say the location has become the permanent home for the fishing clinics after trying several different venues over the years. The lakes are well known among local anglers for providing an excellent opportunity for beginners to catch fish.

Mom's Adventure Club was founded in 2021 and Amanda Lorei is the President with the goal of encouraging families to spend more time outdoors while building friendships and strengthening the community. Since its founding, the club's Facebook group has grown to more than 4,000 members and offers a variety of free family activities throughout the San Jacinto Valley and surrounding communities.

"Our goal is to give families opportunities to unplug, enjoy nature, and connect with one another," organizers said. "These events create lasting memories while helping children experience the outdoors in a fun and welcoming environment."

The club's next free fishing clinic, "Hooked on August," is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 1, from 8 a.m. to noon at Golden Era Golf Course. Admission is free, but organizers ask participants to preregister by emailing hemetmomsadventureclub@gmail.com.

Families interested in learning to fish, as well as experienced anglers willing to volunteer, are encouraged to attend.
