Genealogy "How To" Series Returns to Beaumont Library in 2019

Because of their great popularity, the genealogy "how to" workshops conducted at Beaumont Library last fall are returning in 2019.

To make it easier for people who work on weekdays to attend, all of the programs will be held on Sunday afternoons in the Library's Laura May Stewart Community Room.

Following are the topics, dates, and times for each:

“Genealogy for Beginners” on Sunday, February 10, at 3 p.m.

Learn the basics of how to gather family information, record it, and begin doing research with an overview of the resources the Library has available, including the two newest databases, Ancestry Library Edition and HeritageQuest.

"Genealogy 201,” Sunday, February 24, at 3 p.m."

An intermediate course in how to use various genealogical databases, websites, and other resources, along with a review of genealogical software packages that can be used to record family tree information, put it on the web, etc.

"ABC's of Genealogical DNA," Sunday, March 10, at 3 p.m.

A review of various testing companies, the types of tests available, what can be learned from testing, and how to analyze results, with real-life examples from library staff who have been tested.

"Genealogy Show & Tell / Q & A," Sunday, March 24, at 3 p.m.

This workshop is a chance for you to share some of your family research findings and to bring in the genealogical question that is giving you the most trouble. Library staff and local experts will work together to try to come up with answers.
