Grandfathers for Golf Celebrates Another Successful Youth Golf Session

SAN JACINTO, CA — Smiles, laughter, and a love for the game filled the air as Grandfathers for Golf wrapped up its spring after-school session with a celebration that included golf games, prizes, hot dogs, and cake.

“It’s all about the kids.”

That guiding principle has shaped Grandfathers for Golf for more than 25 years. With a mission of “Bringing Youth to the Game,” the program introduces local children to golf—many for the very first time—while building confidence, friendships, and life skills along the way.

Best of all, the program is completely free.

Donations are welcomed but never required, and every child receives a golf shirt, hat, and even their own set of clubs so they can continue playing beyond the program.

Over the years, hundreds of local kids have participated. Some have gone on to join school golf teams, others have earned scholarships, and a few have even become golf professionals.

Now, organizers are gearing up for the popular summer session, which begins the second Tuesday in June at 7:30 a.m. at Golden Era Golf Course. Registration is currently open.

The only challenge? There are more kids who want to participate than there are volunteers to support them.

That’s why Grandfathers for Golf is putting out the call for community members to step in and help.

And no—there’s no requirement to be a golfer.

“You don’t have to be a grandfather, grandmother, or even play golf,” organizers say. “You just have to care about kids.”

Volunteers consistently describe the experience as deeply rewarding.

“The impact of this program lasts a lifetime,” one volunteer shared. “The kids are having fun, and they keep coming back to learn more.”

For many, the most meaningful moments come years later.

“I run into kids who say, ‘Hi, do you remember me?’” one board member said. “And I say, ‘Of course,’ even though now instead of looking down at them, I’m looking up.”

David Himenez, Vice President of Grandfathers for Golf, recalled a similar experience.

“I was wearing my Grandfathers for Golf shirt in a store when a young man stopped me to say he used to be in the program and how much it meant to him,” Himenez said. “That made my day. That’s what we are all about.”
