Heads Up: DUI Checkpoint Planned In Moreno Valley

At undisclosed location Friday to Saturday, deputies will be checking motorists for signs of impaired driving.

MORENO VALLEY, CA — A DUI checkpoint, at an undisclosed location in Moreno Valley, is planned overnight Friday to Saturday, with deputies checking for drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs, said the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Moreno Valley Station.

“The safety of our community is and always will be our mission,” Deputy Patrick Lynch said. “We are still out there looking for impaired drivers because driving under the influence is still dangerous.”

The operation will run from 9 p.m. Friday to Saturday at 3 a.m.

The unnamed location was chosen based on its history of DUI crashes and arrests, officials said, adding that the checkpoint's primary purpose is "not to make arrests," but to promote public safety and serve as a determent to impaired driving

Deputies also reminded the public that DUIs are not just alcohol-related, but may involve prescription or over-the-counter medications, plus medicinal and recreational marijuana, that could interfere with driving. Drivers charged with DUI can face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.
