Hiker Rescued Thanks To Cabazon Deputies, Mountain Rescue Unit
Other area agencies assisted in the efforts to bring the man down the mountain to safety.

CABAZON, CA – A hiker was rescued this week after he slipped and fell on a trail south of Banning "..and did not believe he could continue" his journey, the sheriff's department reports.
The man, identified as a 33-year-old Los Banos resident, fell around 10:30 a.m. Thursday while he was hiking in the area of Black Mountain Trail and Highway 243, according to sheriff's Sgt. Joel Wilson.
Deputies from the Cabazon sheriff's station headed out to the scene and requested the assistance of the Riverside Mountain Rescue Unit (RMRU), National Forest Service Rangers, Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team (SERT), Riverside County Sheriff’s Aviation Unit and the CHP Aviation Unit, Wilson said.

A helicopter crew soon spotted the hiker, but couldn't hoist him out of the area due to strong winds at the time.
"RMRU was able to respond to [his] location and hike him out to safety," Wilson said, adding that the man did not end up needing any medical attention afterall.

Sheriff's officials reminded hiking enthusiasts to always carry proper equipment for their excursions, like GPS, maps and compasses. They also suggest to always share your plans with family and friends.
