I-10 Fatal Crash: Car Collides With Eastbound Freeway Overpass
A vehicle struck an overpass on I-10 just east of Whitewater, claiming the life of one person Friday morning.

WHITEWATER, CA —One person was killed, and another was hospitalized with severe injuries in a single-car collision on I-10 east of Whitewater Friday morning. One lane of traffic was temporarily closed for the emergency response.
Just before 7 a.m., a car collided with an overpass on the right-hand lanes of I-10 just east of the 29 Palms Highway. Cal Fire/Riverside County firefighters arrived at the crash scene to find two patients. One person was pronounced dead at the scene and another with serious injuries was airlifted to a nearby hospital, according to a department spokesperson.
According to CHP, an inspector has been called to inspect the bridge as the vehicle struck the I-beam of the overpass.

Firefighters used the jaws of life to extract one patient from the vehicle, and the coroner was called to the scene, according to CHP reports.
California Highway Patrol was investigating the crash. There was only minor traffic slowing through the area as of 8:30 a.m.
