IE Man Washes Away After Attempting To Drive Across Flooded Road
Emergency responders sought the flood victim, the San Bernardino County Fire Department said, in what is now a body recovery.
INLAND EMPIRE, CA —During a night of intense rain and howling winds, a driver who attempted to cross a flooded roadway in a full sized truck was swept away, the San Bernardino County Fire Department reported.
On Tuesday, shortly before 11:30 p.m., emergency responders raced to answer a 911 caller in the area of Keenbrook Road and Cajon Boulevard nea the Inland Empire city of Devore.
There, a driver was found on the roof of a full-sized pickup truck, surrounded by rushing floodwaters west of the I-15 in the Cajon Pass.

It was not immediately clear why the driver was attempting to cross that roadway.
"While rescue crews were accessing the scene, the victim was swept away as the vehicle shifted," they said. "An active search remains underway" for the victim, and no immediate word has been given as to his location or condition.

Reports from the scene show that the victim's body was located near where the truck was immobilized by flood waters, "likely trapped under debris," and the San Bernardino County Coroner has been called to the area.
When you see a flooded roadway, do not attempt to drive through it, emergency responders say. Remember, always turn around and don't drown.
