IE Middle School Threat: Father, Son Arrested, Assault Weapons Found

A 12-year-old boy and his father were both arrested Thursday on suspicion of making criminal threats toward middle school students.

JURUPA VALLEY, CA — Authorities arrested a Jurupa Middle School student and his father Thursday after the boy made credible criminal threats against classmates this week, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department said.

Rolando Sida Sr., 42, and his 12-year-old son, whose name was not released, were both placed under arrest Thursday evening, according to Sgt. Aaron Avila.

Sida Sr. of Jurupa Valley was being held on $500,000 bail at the Robert Presley Detention Center for multiple felony charges, including possession of assault weapons, unsecured firearms accessible to minors, and child endangerment. The boy was also arrested and charged with making criminal threats.

The school resource deputy assigned to the Jurupa Middle School learned of criminal threats made by a 12-year-old student toward his classmates, according to Sgt. Aaron Avila.

No one on the campus was harmed, according to Avila.

"With the assistance of the Jurupa Valley Station Investigations Bureau and Jurupa Valley Special Enforcement Team, a thorough investigation of these criminal threats was immediately initiated," Avila said. Those investigations led deputies and investigators to a residence at 5000 Baldwin Avenue, Jurupa Valley.

Inside the home, investigators discovered three unsecured assault rifles, one handgun, and several hundred rounds of ammunition inside the home.

Both the father and son were arrested, and the weapons and ammunition were seized as evidence, according to Avila.

This is an ongoing investigation, and no additional information will be released at this time.

Sida Sr. was slated to appear at Riverside Hall of Justice Court next week.

Patch has contacted both the Jurupa Middle School and the Jurupa Valley Unified School District for comment on the threats and incident and will update this report when their response is received.
