Jazz Vets Jam Live Free in Banning

Bandleader Ted Herman's connections in jazz and show business include legends such as Harry James, Count Basie, Henry Mancini, Nelson Riddle, Sammy Davis Jr., Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, and Elvis Presley, according to his online bio.

Big band leader Ted Herman and his Orchestra bring their eclectic, tradition-soaked riffs on jazz, swing and popular music Thursday evening to Banning's Repplier Park.

Herman's career includes early work with jazz giants such as Stan Kenton, Louis Armstrong and Nat King Cole, according to his online bio.

In the early 1960s, Herman worked in the Reno-Lake Tahoe area with Billy Eckstine at Harrah's, and later at Harvey's, and he stayed 20 years as bandleader and contractor, playing for some of the most important headliners in show business, according to his bio.

Playhouse Bowl Evenings are scheduled at 7:30 p.m. each Thursday in August in Repplier Park, at North San Gorgonio Avenue and East Wilson Street.
