Lane Closures Planned Sunday on Interstate 215

Lane closures are planned Sunday for overpass repairs on a section of southbound Interstate 215 in Riverside.

RIVERSIDE, CA - Lane closures are planned Sunday for overpass repairs on a routinely clogged section of Interstate 215 in Riverside, prompting Caltrans officials to recommend that motorists plan ahead to avoid the area through midday.

Beginning at 3 a.m. Sunday, three of five lanes on southbound I-215 will be closed while crews repair an expansion joint on the Central Avenue bridge.

The lane closures will begin at University Avenue and end near the 215/60 interchange, according to Caltrans.

The work is expected to continue until noon, at which point all lanes are scheduled to be re-opened.

"This section of I-215 typically becomes congested during peak commute hours and on weekends," according to a Caltrans District 8 statement. "Drivers are advised to use alternate routes or avoid the area."

One option for getting around the construction zone is for motorists to parallel the freeway using Sycamore Canyon Boulevard, re-entering the 215 at Fair Isle Drive.
