BANNING, CA — Firefighters battled flames at an abandoned building in Banning Wednesday. The blaze, which was called "suspicious" in nature by an on-scene battalion chief, was reported at 9:27 a.m. in the area of West Lincoln and S 8th streets, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

"CAL FIRE/Riverside County Firefighters responded to reports of a commercial structure fire at W. Lincoln Street and S. 8th Street in Banning," fire officials said. "The first arriving engine company reported a two story concrete tilt up fully involved with fire and requested additional equipment for an additional fire in an adjacent commercial building."

Dozens of firefighters were sent to the scene. See video below for an on-scene interview with fire officials.

At this time, the cause of the fire is under investigation. It's unclear if there were multiple fires that started at the same time, or if the fire in one building spread to the others. In total, three of six buildings in the complex — known locally as 'The Compound' — burned at the location. There have been numerous fires at the location in the past, and all six have burned at one point or another, according to fire officials.
