Man Accused of Gunning Down, Killing Both Parents in Hemet
The suspect is being held in lieu of $1 million bail at the Southwest Detention Center in Murrieta.

Police Friday announced the arrest of a 42-year-old Yorba Linda man on suspicion of fatally shooting his parents at their Hemet mobile home.
David Michael Underwood is suspected of gunning down 71-year-old Michael Underwood and 68-year-old Laura Underwood shortly before 8 a.m. Thursday at the Hemet West Mobile Estates, 5001 Florida Ave.
“For the safety, well-being and peace of mind of the entire community, we knew we had to identify and apprehend the person responsible. That is precisely what we did,” said Hemet police Chief Dave Brown. “We are confident that the individual responsible for this senseless crime is in our custody.”

According to Brown, Underwood was located and arrested without incident in Anaheim late Thursday afternoon. The suspect is being held in lieu of $1 million bail at the Southwest Detention Center in Murrieta.
According to the chief, officers were called to the mobile home park to investigate reports of shots fired and found the couple gunned down inside their residence.

Based on statements from witnesses and evidence collected at the scene, the couple’s son was quickly identified as a suspect, Brown said. He did not disclose a possible motive for the attack.
“I’m very proud of the teamwork that led to the swift apprehension,” the chief said.
