Congressional representatives each year are permitted to nominate 10 prospects to attend four of the five service academies.

SAN GORGONIO PASS AREA, CA — College-bound Banning and Beaumont residents who have an interest in attending one of the nation's federal military academies are urged to submit a "nomination form" to Rep. Raul Ruiz (D-Coachella).

Congressional representatives each year are permitted to nominate 10 prospects to attend four of the five service academies, which are the U.S. Air Force Academy, the Merchant Marine Academy, the Naval Academy and the Army West Point. The Coast Guard Academy does not require a nomination, only an application.

Service academy applicants must be U.S. citizens, at least 17 and no more than 23 years old, as well as unmarried and have no child support obligations.
