More Transparency Coming To Beaumont City Government

Broadcasts of city council meetings will soon be available on the city's own PEG (public, educational and governmental) channel.

BEAUMONT, CA — Beaumont citizens will soon get more transparency into city government — without leaving their couch. Tuesday night the Beaumont City Council held a ribbon-cutting ceremony in celebration of renovations at the council chamber. While cosmetic updates were part of the spiffing up, the city also invested in enhanced audio visual equipment in order to broadcast council meetings to the public.

The broadcasts will soon be available on the city’s own PEG (public, educational and governmental) channel.

Funding for the project is from PEG fees, which are taxes paid by cable companies. The restricted funds can only be used to support the broadcasting of government meetings to the public, specifically on a government access channel through local cable companies, the city explained.
