Moreno Valley Man Arrested Following Deadly Long Beach Crash
Quentin Darnell Black, 31, is accused of crashing into a security guard station, fleeing the scene, and leaving a guard to die.
LONG BEACH, CA — A 31-year-old Moreno Valley man suspected of killing a 54-year-old guard when he lost control of his SUV and it crashed into a security station in Long Beach was arrested Monday.
The crash occurred about 3 p.m. Saturday at the Century Villages at Cabrillo apartment complex in the 2000 block of San Gabriel Avenue, near Pacific Coast Highway and the Terminal Island (103) Freeway.
Quentin Darnell Black was allegedly behind the wheel of a 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe when he lost control of the vehicle and smashed into the station, according to Long Beach Police Department Lt. Scott Jenson.

Black abandoned the Tahoe and fled the scene on foot before police arrived.
Responding officers found Derrick Smith, a resident of Los Angeles, injured inside the shack and provided medical aid until paramedics arrived. Medical personnel continued to administer aid, but Smith died of his injuries at the scene.

Police caught up with Black on Monday in connection with the fatal crash and booked him into the Long Beach Police Department Jail. The Moreno Valley man's bail was set at $100,000.
