Moreno Valley Recruit Who Collapsed, Died During Training ID'd

RIVERSIDE, CA — A California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control recruit who fell ill and died at the Ben Clark Public Safety Training Center in Riverside was identified Friday.

Cecil Kidd, 26, of Moreno Valley died Tuesday after collapsing during a class held at the Riverside County Sheriff's Department facility.

"Agent Kidd was hired by the department on July 26," according to an ABC statement. "Agent Kidd will be remembered by his colleagues for his caring nature, bright smile and delightful personality. ABC is heartbroken over the passing of Agent Kidd, and the flags at headquarters are being flown at half-staff to honor him."

According to sheriff's Cpl. Lionel Murphy, the victim became ill about 7 a.m. Tuesday for unspecified reasons, prompting staff to call for an ambulance.

"Upon (paramedics') arrival, the recruit lost consciousness, and life-saving measures were performed," Murphy said.

Kidd was taken to Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley, where he was pronounced dead.

According to ABC officials, an autopsy is pending.
