Deadly Shooting Reported In Banning

Police say a man was shot to death this week.

BANNING, CA — Banning police are investigating a murder that was reported Tuesday in town. Officials say a man was shot several times and died at the location off Ramsey Street and records revealed Wednesday that someone has been arrested in connection to the case.

Police responded around 3:50 p.m. to the 3800 block of West Ramsey Street, just west of Sunset Avenue, "in regards to a male that had been shot," officials said in a news release.

"Officers arrived at the location and located a male adult, who will not be identified at this time, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds," the release stated. "Paramedics soon arrived and administered medical aid; however, the male succumbed to his injuries."

Patrick Joseph Soward, 61, was arrested on North Murray Street in Banning and booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning Wednesday morning on suspicion of murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm, with bail set at $1 million.

His connection, if any, to the victim was not disclosed by police.

Court records show that Soward's prior convictions include vehicle theft and possession of controlled substances.

Banning police detectives are investigating the death and asked for the public's help for information related to the shooting. Anyone who may have witnessed something is asked to call the Banning Police Department Detective Bureau at 951-849-1511.
