New Beaumont Councilman Rey Santos Sworn In

"I do believe in hard work and it's ahead of us," the newest Beaumont politician said.

BEAUMONT, CA — Beaumont officially welcomed its newest councilmember this week as Councilman Rey Santos was sworn into office Tuesday evening. Santos takes over the role left vacated by Mark Orozco, who was ousted from the council upon pleading guilty to bribery and perjury charges in September.

"I’m so humble and proud to be appointed as a new council member of this beautiful city of ours that I can continue to serve the citizens of Beaumont with wholehearted transparency, accountability, ethically and full responsibility of being in this council," Santos said in a released statement.

Santos, who is the president of Saints Realty Inc., previously served as Beaumont's Vice-Chair of the Finance and Audit Committee before his appointment. He has a Bachelor's of Science degree in Accounting from San Beda College located in the Philippines, according to city officials.

Of his new appointment, which lasts through the next council election in Nov. 2018, he says he is looking forward to working with the current council members.

"I do believe in hard work and it’s ahead of us," Santos said. "The present council have had demonstrated and contributed to this goal of safe to live and lead to prosperity of this city which I’m glad to be part of it."
