Palm Springs Gathering to Focus on Energy, Water Policy

The launch of the Salton Sea License Plate Drive will also be announced.

U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar will be the keynote speaker at the 2015 Southern California Energy + Water Summit in Palm Springs, which begins tomorrow.

The two-day conference, presented by The Desert Sun and Burke Rix Communication, aims to bring together ”public and private leaders to foster clean energy opportunities, identify long-range water solutions, and build a
sustainable region.’’

A daylong energy and water bus tour, leaving from the Desert Water Agency office, will kick off the summit. A Green Consumer Expo and reception will follow at the Palm Springs Convention Center.

Assemblymen Eduardo Garcia, D-Coachella, and Chad Mayes, R-Yucca Valley, will hold a news conference at the start of the expo to announce the launch of the Salton Sea License Plate Drive -- an initiative to sell specialized license plates to raise money for restoration of the Salton Sea.

On Thursday, attendees will take part in a series of breakout and plenary sessions, including the keynote address by the Interior Secretary and presentations by other regional and state public officials.
