2 People Killed In Plane Crash Near Banning Municipal Airport

The plane went down around 9:30 a.m. Friday. The NTSB and FAA are investigating. ​

BANNING, CA — A plane crashed near Banning Municipal Airport Friday morning, killing both people on board, officials confirmed.

The crash was reported around 9:30 a.m. in a vacant lot on the northwest side of the airport that is located at 200 S. Hathaway St., according to a statement from the Federal Aviation Administration. The area is near Ramsey Street.

Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department said both of the plane's occupants died at the scene. Their identities have not been released.

A small fire ignited during the crash but was quickly extinguished, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

There were no injuries reported on the ground, according to the FAA.

The crash cause is being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA.

Authorities were working to determine the plane's make and model.
