Public's Help Sought Finding Hit-and-Run Driver Who Killed Cyclist

Officials estimate the 57-year-old Hemet woman was dead in the San Jacinto roadway for six hours before being discovered.

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA – Investigators Monday sought the public's help in identifying the driver of an SUV that ran over and killed a bicyclist in San Jacinto.

Vivian Thomas, 57, of Hemet was killed sometime late Saturday night or in the predawn hours Sunday on the Ramona Expressway, just east of Alessandro Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP Officer Darren Meyer said Thomas' body was discovered about 6:20 a.m. Sunday -- roughly six hours after she had been hit.

According to Meyer, Thomas was riding her bike eastbound on Ramona and was struck in the slow lane.

"Evidence at the scene revealed the victim had been struck from the rear by a Chevrolet or GMC truck or SUV," Meyer said. "The vehicle that was involved failed to stop, and the (driver) has not contacted law enforcement."
