Quarterback Josh Martin an Impact Player for Beaumont Cougars Football
The Cougars open their season Sept. 2 against Valley View at San Gorgonio Middle School.

Last season’s Mountain Pass League opener provided a big moment for Beaumont’s football team.
It was a breakout night for Cougar quarterback Josh Martin.
“It was our first league game and he just took over,” Beaumont coach Paul Lopez said. “They couldn’t stop him. He really made a difference in that game.”

Martin, who proceeded to lead the Cougars to a MPL title and into the playoffs, is an impact player for the 2011 season.
“If you feel you can’t win, you will not go out and perform to the best of your ability,” Martin said. “If you come in and believe you can
compete, you will compete to the best of your ability.”

Martin’s impact on the team was as mental as it was physical.
“I tried to rally the troops and made it seem like we were on an even playing field,” Martin said. “I made the team feel like we could take them out. Coming in with that confident attitude I think is what
helped us get the victory in that game.”
Martin has a strong arm and has looked sharp in summer workouts. Physically he has what recruiters look for – he is 6-foot-3, 200
pounds.
“He has the size and passes the eye-ball test,” Lopez said. “He has the leadership and the intangibles you need. That became obvious to everyone.”
The Cougars finished 7-4 in the league last season, completing the regular season by winning five of their last seven games and qualified for the playoffs.
“That’s exciting,” Lopez said of his team’s progress over the last five years. “It is great to see the kids respond.”
