RivCo Deputy Arrested After Traffic Stop Leads To Trove Of Drugs: RSD

BANNING, CA — A Riverside County correctional deputy was arrested over the weekend when a traffic stop led to a trove of narcotics, according to the Riverside Sheriff's Department.

Deputy Jorge Oceguera-Rocha, a 25-year-old Banning resident, was arrested by the special investigations bureau, said Sgt. Wenndy Brito-Gonzalez.

Citing jail records, KTLA reported that he was found with more than 44 pounds of drugs after a traffic stop Sunday on Interstate 10 at County Line Road in Calimesa.

"During the traffic stop, it was discovered Oceguera-Rocha had narcotics and was subsequently booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center," she said in a written statement. "Correctional Deputy Oceguera-Rocha was hired by the Riverside County Sheriff's Office in April of 2019 and was assigned to the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility. He has since resigned in lieu of termination."

No additional details will be released as the case is still under investigation, she added.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department condemned any form of illegal activity within its ranks.

"The Riverside County Sheriff's Office will employ all necessary measures to ensure the highest standards of integrity and professionalism among its personnel," Brito-Gonzalez added.

Oceguera-Rocha was being held at the Southwest Detention Center. He was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday at 8 a.m. on charges, including possession of narcotics, transportation of narcotics, and possession of a firearm while in possession of narcotics, according to jail records.
