Dramatic Video Shows Police Swarm, Arrest Accused RivCo Murderers In Baby’s Death
Rebecca Haro said she was attacked outside a Big 5 when Emmanuel was taken, but investigators believe the child is dead.
CABAZON, CA — Riverside County parents who reported their 7-month-old son had been kidnapped last week were arrested Friday morning on suspicion of murdering their baby, authorities said.
Jake, 32, and Rebecca Haro, 41, parents of missing baby Emmanuel Haro, were arrested at their home in Cabazon a week after they told police that their baby had been kidnapped in Yucaipa on Aug. 14. Police say they have determined that a kidnapping never happened, the San Bernardino Sheriff's Department announced Friday afternoon in a news release.
Authorities on Friday released dramatic footage of the arrests in the high-profile case that has gripped the region and garnered national headlines as people around the country rallied around the family for Emmanuel's safe return.

"During the investigation thus far, numerous interviews have been conducted, search warrants have been served, digital and electronic evidence has been collected and closely analyzed," the San Bernardino Sheriff's Department announced. "Based on the evidence, investigators determined a kidnapping in Yucaipa did not occur. It is believed Emmauel is deceased and the search to recover his remains is ongoing."
Emmauel's parents have both been booked in a Riverside County jail without bail, the department said, adding that no other suspects are outstanding.

“The circumstances surrounding this investigation are tragic and we will continue to search for Emmanuel," the department wrote. "I trust our justice system will hold the parents accountable."
The weeklong investigation was an effort between members of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office, Riverside County District Attorney’s Office and the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
According to jail records, Rebecca was being held at the Robert Presley Detention Center.
The news comes just after the department's announcement that they had halted a ground search for the child.
Amid the weeklong investigation, the Uvalde Foundation For Kids — a nonprofit that aids in missing children cases — said its offer to help the Haro family find their 7-month-old had gone unanswered. That silence, the group said, runs counter to the parents’ earlier public claims that they wanted help and would cooperate with efforts to locate Emmanuel.
Daniel Chapin, a leader with the nonprofit, released a statement on Wednesday, condemning the parents' silence.
"The foundation, as noted in previous communications, has been fully prepared to fund, support and advocate for this family as the search for Emmanuel continues, even despite them originally not cooperating fully with the investigation and inconsistencies in the reporting," Chapin wrote. "Our newest attempts have been met with silence, and it baffles me. We are running out of patience!"

Emmanuel's mother, Rebecca Haro, told police she was changing her child's diaper in the parking lot of a Big 5 Sporting Goods on Aug. 14 when she was knocked unconscious by a stranger, who then took the infant, according to a statement from the sheriff's department.
Since then, Rebecca has been accused of being inconsistent in her telling of the events.
Days later, some news outlets reported that "cadaver dogs" were used during the search warrant service at the Haro home.
On Tuesday, Jake Haro's vehicle was seized by police, KTLA reported.
And, for reasons that have not been disclosed to the public, a young child at the Haro's family home was removed Sunday by Riverside County Child and Family Services officers, according to Mara Rodriguez, spokesperson for he San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.
Rebecca Haro's statement to investigators has been inconsistent, and when confronted with the apparent conflicts, she declined to continue with law enforcement questioning, according to the sheriff's department.
Jake Haro reportedly has a criminal history in Riverside County involving child abuse.
"While Emmanuel’s father has retained an attorney, if the parents choose to work with detectives, we welcome their cooperation as we continue efforts to locate Emmanuel," officials said Wednesday.
In 2018, he and his then-partner, Vanessa Haro or Vanessa Avina, were charged in Riverside County with felony child cruelty. He pleaded guilty in 2023 and was later sentenced to four years' probation, with an additional 180 days to be served in jail through the work release program. The court suspended a six-year prison sentence as part of his plea, according to the Riverside County District Attorney's Office.
