Riverside Co. Approves Rush Medical Campus Expansion

The campus expansion will occupy 15 acres of the southern portion of campus and will be used for outpatient services.

From Riverside Co.: A three-story medical office building slated for completion in 2019 will bring new specialty physician groups, an outpatient surgery center and expanded pharmacy services to RUHS Medical Center in Moreno Valley.

The Riverside County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved the 200,000 square foot building along with a single-story 8,000 square-foot lobby and café. The building will occupy 15 acres on the southern portion of the RUHS campus. The outpatient building and 439-bed Medical Center will be linked by a pedestrian bridge. Construction is expected to begin by summer.

By providing an array of quality outpatient services RUHS officials say they will be better positioned to attract private insurance carriers and reduce overhead associated with more costly inpatient care. They also say the project will improve access to a variety of services in a region where many residents still seek healthcare in neighboring counties.

“This project is going to be transformational for our patients and the way we deliver services,” said Dr. Arnold Tabuenca, chief medical officer at the 124-year-old public teaching hospital. “We are growing and bringing outstanding services to meet the needs of our communities.”

A number of capital projects are already under way at the Medical Center campus, which is near the northwest corner of Nason St. and Cactus Ave. Earlier this year crews broke ground on expansion of the Medical Center’s emergency department and trauma center. A new cardiac catheterization lab is expected to come online in October, and new MRI and CT scanners were recently installed.
