Riverside County School Closure Extended Due To Coronavirus

The extended closure will last through at least April 30.

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — An extended closure for all schools in Riverside County will be announced shortly by Riverside County Public Health.

The closure will last through April 30, according to two county health officials.

Riverside County Public Health Officer Dr. Cameron Kaiser is expected to issue an updated order Tuesday.

Last week, Kaiser issued an order effective March 16 requiring all schools to close through April 3. In addition to public schools, the order applies to preschools, charter schools, private schools and all colleges and universities in Riverside County. The order was to be lifted April 3 and classes to resume April 6, "unless another update is warranted before that time," Kaiser said.

Since that order, the number of COVID-19 infections and deaths have risen in the county.

On Monday, Kaiser issued a countywide order barring public gatherings of 10 or more people. The order also states that gatherings with fewer than 10 people must have enough available room to maintain six feet of space between attendees — known as "social distancing." The order extends through April 30.
